FFY Presented with Donation
November 27, 2017

At the Club's November 27, 2017 meeting Past-President Sherry Stark returned to the podium to formally share the proceeds of the Club's 2016-17 fundraising with her Charity of the Year, Foundation For Youth (FFY).  FFY provides a wide variety of programs and services for young people throughout Columbus and Bartholomew County.  The "Happy Bucks", pie bake-off, and other fundraisers for the year resulted in $1,585.62 for FFY.  Sherry thanked the Club members for their generosity and noted that the total raised met 2015-16 President Dan Arnholt's challenge to exceed that year's fundraising amount.

Columbus Rotary Continues Commitment to Abby's House
September 25, 2017

The Columbus Rotary Club was pleased to host Denise Soltis, President of the Board of Directors of Hillside Clinic, at its September 25 weekly meeting.  The non-profit Hillside Clinic provides medical care to families and individuals in need in southern Belize.  Abby's House, the medical student dormitory at the clinic, is named in honor of Abby Brinkman of Columbus.  Abby was a fourth year medical student at Indiana University doing a rotation at the Hillside Clinic when she died in a tragic accident in 2005.  The Columbus community, led by the Brinkman family, the Columbus Rotary Club, and First Presbyterian Church, conceived of, designed, and funded Abby's House to carry on her desire to provide medical care to those in need in underserved areas of the world.  Abby's House was dedicated in 2008 and can accommodate 16 students.  Denise provided an update on the work of the Hillside Clinic and shared the significant impact that Abby's House has had on their ability to fulfill their mission.  The Club presented Denise with a check for $5,000 in support of Hillside's continued efforts.  In doing so, the Club designated the Hillside Clinic and Abby's House as its international project.

Rotarians Bake Pies for Foundation for Youth
June 19, 2017

Columbus Rotary Club 2016-17 President Sherry Stark's fundraising to benefit Foundation for Youth concluded with a Club pie baking contest.  Celebrity judges John Foster and Sam Simmermaker sampled the selection of delicious desserts made by Club members.  A peach pie provided by Roger (and Jan) Brinkman was selected as the winner.  Duplicates of all of the sampled pies were then auctioned, with the proceeds adding to the year's contributions to FFY. The 2016-17 "Happy Bucks", pie contest, and other fundraisers resulted in a $1585.62 contribution to FFY.  Congratulations to Sherry, fundraiser organizer Barb Hackman, and all who participated in this effort.
